This is amazing and exactly the kind of ideas, thinking, and compassion that the world needs from our youth RIGHT NOW! My kids’ school enacted something called the buddy bench this year. What’s the buddy bench? It’s a bench that sits at the playground where kids that don’t have someone to play with can sit down and let others know that they are looking to play. This is the next level version of that. Sit With Us is an app that allows kids that feel bullied, different, or just alone, find somewhere to sit at lunch and not have to worry whether or not it is a safe seat. Now, admittedly, in a small school like the one I went to this may not work as well as the bullies will just follow. But is large schools where its easy to get lost in the sea of students, this is great. Check it out, and next time, don’t be afraid to let someone new sit next to you.
After having to sit alone during lunch in the 7th grade and being the target of bullies, Natalie Hampton, a 16-year-old from Sherman Oaks, California, decided to create an app that helps lonely students find lunch buddies.
